At Usworth Colliery Primary School we value our place in the local community. We believe that establishing strong, effective relationships with parents, carers and families is in the best interests of our children, helping them feel part of a nurturing community which supports them to aspire and achieve . Therefore, we aim to work together to provide the very best outcomes for our children.
Our aim is for all of our pupils to:
-feel a sense of belonging within the local communities;
-appreciate and value the diversity of backgrounds and circumstances in our local community;
- develop positive relationships between our school and the local community
- feel that they both support and are supported within the local community
Through our school values, we encourage our pupils to be:
ASPIRATIONAL -to facilitate social mobility for our pupils by teaching them that similar life opportunities can be available to all.
SAFE -that everyone feels valued and welcome in our community
RESILIENT -to respond to challenges and support others within the community
CARING -to look after each other and understand that as a community we can be stronger
Community Events
Where possible, we try to support the work of the local community. We usually advertise events via twitter, on our website or our weekly newsletter. If you would like us to advertise local events then contact the School Office via email and we will do our best.
Examples of working with our community
Children from various classes regularly pick up litter around our local area.
The children enjoyed their day at the Washington Carnival parade.
Reception children singing and dancing at regular intergenerational visits in our local area.
Some classes have helped at our local food bank.
We have planted trees in our school and around our local area.
Volunteers
We hope that any Parent/Carer with free time will come into school to help, both inside and outside the classroom. If you are interested in helping, please talk to Alison Forster or any of the Office Staff.
All voluntary support workers must be DSB cleared (police checked) for the safety of your children. This includes those who offer to go on trips. Again the Office Staff will advise you about this procedure. We are very grateful for the help Parents give us in school.
